A great weekend was had by all Ramblers in Cooktown as Paul & Lesley laid on another cracking event for us avid motorhomers. With handbrakes on and dinners eaten members made their way into the hall where Florence and her Bingo machine we ready and raring to go and made many people happy, including our own Chairman who along with Bridget won a couple of rounds. Or perhaps it was just Bridget! To follow Paul produced a bottle whiskey for a session of “roll a pound” which soon saw members raining pound coins on the bottle and raising a princely sum for our first aid fund which continues to quickly and steadily grow. As Paul and Lesley have kindly donated 2 more bottles be sure to watch out for the next exciting instalment.
Cookstown is a much-loved town for members, and with its convenient central location and great shopping is hard to beat. However, this weekend it was made even better with the Ulster Pipe Band Championship taking place right beside our venue meaning members could really do it all. Retail therapy in the morning was swiftly followed up with some bagpipes in the afternoon then in the evening BBQ were lit and Restaurants visited before polishing off the evening with some lively music and a waltz or two.
With a sound nights sleep and pipes still ringing in our ear we gathered on Sunday morning for a relaxing cuppa and some beautiful cakes courtesy of a hard-working Lesley and a special donation from Victor and Sandra to set us all up for the road home. But before that David made sure to thank one and all for coming and most especially Paul & Lesley for their dedicated work over the weekend. Bringing the weekend to a close our minds now turn to the big holiday event where 4 days of craic await on the Malahide coast.
