Omagh Event 26 - 28 April

On Friday we arrived at Gibson Primary School in cloudy but fair-weather conditions and were warmly welcomed by our Hosts, Jack, and Florence. We gathered in the canteen on Friday night where the buzz of conversation and laughter was mighty. When the conversation eventually began to lull, we were entertained with a game of ‘Play Your Cards Right’ hosted by Joe, Florence, and Jack. It is obvious that we don’t have many card players because, even with lots of audience participation, we had many more losers than winners. The three lucky winners were Lesley Rixon, Raymond Elliott, and Bertie McGaughey. The evening concluded with some ‘Easy Listening’ music and a few dance numbers.

On Saturday the weather was warm and sunny giving members the opportunity to sit out with friends while others headed to the town for retail therapy or maybe a liquid refreshment or two. Others took a stroll in the park beside the river. Saturday night we relocated to the assembly hall where we had a brilliant night of dancing with DJ Joe playing a broad selection of music. There was something for everyone and the floor was well filled into the wee small hours.

At coffee morning on Sunday, we welcomed back our Chairman, David Gilmore and Bridget who were just home from their holiday in Spain. David thanked Jack and Florence for all the work they had done in making our event so enjoyable and he also thanked Joe for providing the music. He added that he and Bridget had been to several dancing venues in Spain but had to come home to have a real party. The Fireside Quiz which was organised by Margaret O’Donnell was won by Frances Cartwright, with Richard Millar second and Michelle Coaltar third. We made good use of the school screen and black-out curtains in the hall and Gary gave a very informative video presentation on how to use our Defibrillator. David closed the coffee morning by wishing everyone a safe journey home.
