Bangor Event - Pipe Bands - 17 to 19 May 2024

Bangor Event 17th To 19th May 2024

........Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor

........A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know........

Three vans, their occupants, either mad keen to get to Bangor or simply wishing to acclimatize themselves to the hot weather, which was forecast, came down on Thursday and overnighted at Donaghadee Rugby Club. As a result of this, the rugby club generously donated £30.00 to their chosen charity, the RNLI.

Bangor Integrated Primary School was the setting for this weekend’s event and what a beautiful venue it was, being so close to town centre, a lovely clean, tidy and bright school went a long way to lift spirits of all who attended. The vans were booked in by Flo and parked up by Enda who was graciously helped by Gary. We all gathered in the school assembly hall for meet and greet and some refreshment.  This was followed by bingo. Florence Little performed the duties of caller assisted by Gary. Florence has a beautiful voice for the job and even outsmarted the phantom “Quacker” Gary continued the evening with some music.

Ward Park, almost next door to our venue, was the setting for the 2024 UK Pipe Band Championships on the Saturday and what a treat that was with a total of 76 bands battling it out under a blazing sun. It was a glorious day with thousands of spectators out to watch and of course, to listen. I know quite a few of our members are keen pipe band enthusiasts so a special treat for them. Others spent the day soaking up the sun whilst quite a few spent their hard earned cash in the many shops and dare I say it, some visited the many trendy pubs and restaurants around Bangor. Saturday night in the hall Gary again entertained us with a selection of music, not much dancing though but I would put that down to jaded legs and feet after a full day of activity.

Sunday morning and yet another glorious day to be enjoyed and lazed in before Coffee Morning. Jack again supplied the tea and coffee with his usual efficiency ably assisted by our host, Flo who provided a wide selection of cake, buns and very elegant breads. Joe, now acting chairman due to the absence of our chairman, David Gilmore, who had a long standing engagement elsewhere, thanked those who need to be thanked, reminded all abut the Members Meeting at our next event in Magherafelt and then went on to explain the benefits of “what 3 words” the navigational aid. It was a very interesting talk and I for one will be availing of the free app. We had new members at Bangor, Roy and Sandra Ferguson and also William and Adeline McClenaghan. You are most welcome and we hope to see a lot more of you all. The quiz was won by Joy Coulter and she received a lovely gift donated by the Dyer family. Next event is at St. Pius X College Magherafelt on 30 May, what3words udder.headings.wedge Go on download the app and try it. See you there.

…....Then on the park we heard a pipe band
