Newtownards Event Report 28 February to 2 March 2025

A huge thank you to Joe & Florence and Ian & Liz who made us all so welcome in Newtownards for the weekend. This was the first of a double-header for us in North Down and it was certainly a fun filled weekend for all kicking off on Friday night with the ever popular Bingo. Florence & Liz kept a keen eye as a number of lucky members pocketed some healthy winnings to help with the usual retail experience the next day. Music was also on offer as George & Gary combined to play some light tunes, as well as some faster songs to suit the growing number of young people coming to our events. Young Amelia bounced and cartwheeled her way around the floor reminding us all how it’s done nowadays. Being Friday night it was of course the perfect time to get caught up with old and new friends with everyone joining in the conversation and inclusiveness we are so proud of.

The weather was exceptionally kind to us and although a little chilly members headed down the town from early morning and enjoyed the busy Market Square. One or two made a trip to the famous Knotts bakery and café as well as enjoying a pint of the black stuff and a good helping of craic to round off the afternoon. On Saturday evening we all looked forward to the return of DJ Norman and he absolutely did not disappoint. Getting straight back into the groove he played hits from start to finish and judged the crowd perfectly with waltzers, quick-steppers, jivers and line-dancers all getting their time on the floor. Then in the rest periods more than a few singalong hits too.

With our voice boxes and feet rested after a good night’s sleep we met once more for coffee morning where Jack and his “brew-crew” filled our cups. Back from his European travels our Chairman David then brought us up to speed with club events and led a well-earned round of applause of our hosts. This was quickly followed by a warm welcome to our new members Jackie & Mary, in what we hope will be the first of many happy events with us in their lovely new van.

So, thank you again Joe & Florence and Ian & Liz for your non-stop efforts all weekend. We all look forward to Rambling our way to Bangor for St Patricks Event where shenanigans await with The Dyer Family at the ready.
