All roads lead to Magherafelt on Friday and on arrival we were all warmly welcomed by our hosts for the weekend Margaret & Eddie supported by Geraldine & Anthony. We were all navigated to our parking spaces efficiently without any hassle. After that usual cup of tea, coffee or something a little stronger we all made our way to the hall for Bingo. This was a great night of fun and excitement, especially as the prize for each game got bigger. In spite of the laughter and interruptions, everyone enjoyed the craic thanks to our callers Gary & Margaret.
On Saturday morning the younger members were entertained by George & Diane and Evie & Davie through an identify “the flavor of the jelly baby/bean” game. I have been told that great fun was had by all and it was more about taking part for all involved rather than who won. Many of the other members went down into Magherafelt to do some shopping and I have no doubt have contributed to the holiday fund of some of the local traders.
On Saturday evening we all made our way to the main hall, where we were welcomed by the sound of Scottish Music and the smell of beautiful food that had been prepared for our “Robbie Burns Evening”. The “Haggis” was accompanied into the hall by two pipers, the like of we have never heard before!!!!!. The address to the Haggis was delivered by Joe which was the sign for the festivities to commence. The fruits of the labour done by the hosts in preparing the food was very very much appreciated and enjoyed by all the members in attendance. This part of the evening was concluded by a toast to the good man himself “Robbie Burns”. The remainder of the evening was filled with music, craic in a very warm and welcoming atmosphere.
On Sunday morning we all gathered for our usual tea and coffee morning, where we were all treated to homemade shortbread and cake. The air was filled with complements and appreciation for the night we all had celebrating “Robbie Burns” the evening before. The winner of the quiz was announced as George Craig.
Before saying our goodbyes everyone who enjoyed this fantastic weekend which in captured everything that is good about our club, it was felt that special mention should be made of our hosts Margaret & Eddie and Geraldine & Anthony and helpers who had gone the extra mile to make this weekend so special.
