Portstewart Event - NW200 - 10 to 12 May 2024

10th–12th May 2024 St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Parish Centre Portstewart

What a perfect venue for the Ramblers first visit to the North West 200. The Ramblers rumbled into Portstewart for the start of the North West 200 weekend. Gary soon had everyone safely parked up. In no time at all we had our tables and chairs set up to enjoy the glorious sunshine. Friday evening some members strolled the short distance to Portstewarts Promenade to enjoy the atmosphere around the North West 200 festivities. Later that evening the Ramblers gathered outdoors to enjoy a get together and a sing along to Garys ’Music. As darkness fell, we had a birds’ eye view of the brilliant fireworks display provided by the North-West 200 Event Organisers. To make the evening even better the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) put on a spectacular display.

Early Saturday morning the rumble of motorbikes arriving had us up and awake early. Members headed of in search of a spot along the race circuit to soak up the excitement of the races and grab a few rays of the glorious sunshine. After a long day spectating at the races weary Ramblers returned to base and prepared for the evenings’ entertainment. Unfortunately, the Aurora Borealis did not make another appearance but we did have the company of several illuminated members sporting multi colours of red (sunburn) including myself. Music provided by Norman soon had everyone up on the floor strutting their stuff to old favourites.

Thanks to Jack, Florence and Margaret for our 11.00 coffee and a special thanks to Yvonne for her delicious wheaten bread. In David and Joes absence Gary brought the weekend to a close. Once again, the Ramblers had another great weekend with old and new friends. Thanks also to the Star of the Sea Parish for an excellent venue allowing the Ramblers to enjoy the North-West 200. See you all at our next event in Bangor 17th-19th May at Central Primary School for the UK Pipe Bands Championships.
