Portstewart Event - Red Sails Festival - 26 to 28 July 2024

What a wonderful venue we had for our Red Sails Event, located right in the heart of the beautiful seaside town of Portstewart. Thank you, Enda. As a matter of interest, the Sunday Times Guide has named Portstewart as the best place to live in Northern Ireland in 2024, hailing it as Northern Ireland’s “most graceful seaside town”. Also, a big ‘thank you’ to the Portstewart Community Association for organising such a brilliant festival. There really was something for everyone to enjoy culminating with a fireworks display on Saturday night to bring it to a close. The weather also played an important part in both the success of the festival and indeed our members enjoyment of the event. There was a shower or two on Friday evening but with suitable wet gear donned we got everyone safely parked up. After the showers passed it was warm and sunny for the rest of the weekend and our members certainly took full advantage of it.

On Friday night we had ‘Play Your Cards Right’ hosted by Yvonne. As always this turned out to an exercise in trying to give money away and the rules had to be changed a few times to bring it to an end. Florence McClune was the lucky winner of the main prize. Amelia also earned a prize for endeavour. After that we had a selection of Irish Showband hits from the 60s and 70s followed by members requests.

On Saturday evening the sun beginning to go down, taking the temperature with it, encouraged members into the hall, where the party mood continued. Music and dancing continued until everyone was truly ready for their beds.

At coffee morning David brought the event to a close by thanking all those who had made it such a success and the members generously showed their appreciation. David highlighted our next event at Cookstown Primary School from 2nd to 4th August and drew attention to our 4-night holiday event that will take place at Malahide Rugby Club commencing on Wednesday14th August.

We really enjoyed hosting the event and had a wonderful weekend in very good company.

Joe & Roberta.
